Press Release: Bus Trip to Corning Set

The Wayne County Historical Societyࢀ™s spring bus trip is scheduled for Sunday, June 19. the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY. The bus will leave from the Route 6 Plaza at 7 am and return at approximately 8 pm. The price for the bus and admission to the museum is $45 for WCHS members and $50 for non-members.

The self-guided tour begins in the Gallery of Contemporary Glass. The exhibition focuses on unique objects rather than on limited-edition or mass-produced works. Other museum galleries are currently featuring the work of contemporary artist Toots Zynsky; ࢀœEast Meets Cross-Cultural Influences in Glassmaking in the 18th and 19th Centuriesࢀ; and ࢀœMirror to The 200-Inch Disk and the Hale Reflecting Telescope at Palomar.ࢀ

A taped audio tour is available for $3 at the museum or can be downloaded free from the museum website, www.cmg.org. A new feature at the museum is the opportunity for visitors to make their own piece of glass art. Pricing varies, and it is suggested that visitors book a spot in the class either online or by phone. Free shuttle service from the museum to the City of Corning is offered throughout the day, so visitors can shop, have lunch or visit the world-famous Rockwell Museum of Western Art. Admission to the Rockwell Museum (not included in the bus tour) is $6.50 for adults, $5.50 for adults 55+ and free for children 18 and under.

Lunch is available at the Glass Market Café at the Museum of Glass from a varied menu including soups, salads, sandwiches and a variety of beverages. The Coffee Bar offers an array of coffees with pastries and snacks. There will be a dinner stop on the return trip at the Cracker Barrel in Binghamton, NY, which offers a large selection of inexpensive menu items.
