The Wayne County Historical Society will host an Open House at Bethel School, Berlin Township on Sunday, August 26th, from 1 - 4 pm, with a special presentation at 2 pm. Volunteers from WCHS run educational programs each summer at the historic one-room school, built about 1872, through an agreement with the Wayne County Commissioners. The program is free to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
Carol Dunn, a science teacher at Wallenpaupack Area High School and a Trustee of the Wayne County Historical Society, will lead the Special Presentation about spelling and spelling bees. Those attending will enjoy being part of an old- fashioned Spelling Bee.
Bethel School is just a few miles from Honesdale. From Route 6 in Indian Orchard, take Route 652 East for one mile, and turn right onto Bethel School Road. Go one mile and the school is on your left. Plan now to visit historic Bethel School and step back in time to see one of the best preserved one-room schools in the area.
