Press Release: Reif Spettigue Fire

Reif Spettigue Fire

A disastrous fire in 1912 left the Reif-Spettigue building in Honesdale looking like an ice sculpture and cost the life of a fireman. Wayne County Historical Society Executive Director Sally Talaga is asking county residents to look through their photo albums for pictures of fires, fire companies, firemen, fire houses and equipment for use in an exhibit she and Jim Bader are preparing for the WCHS museum this spring. Photos will be scanned and returned to the owners if loaned or placed in the WCHS Photo Archives if donated. The pictures are needed by March 1and can be left at the museum any Saturday between 10 am 4 pm, or, if this is not convenient, owners can call or email Sally Talaga at 570-253-3240 or wchs@ptd.net or call Jim Bader at 570-253-4776 to arrange for pickup.
