Press Release: Becker Deadline Extended

Howard Becker, Bethany.

Becker Painting: First Presbyterian Church, Hawley

The Wayne County Historical Society is planning a new exhibit of the artwork of Howard D. Becker. The exhibit, a continuation of the theme of the acclaimed "The Wayne County Experience," will open April 21, 2012.

Mr. Becker, one of the most recognized artists of our county, left an extraordinary legacy through his portraits and paintings of local landscapes. His art has previously been featured in several exhibits at the WCHS museum and in private galleries.

Director Sally Talaga and Curator Juan Espino appreciate the extraordinary response by owners of Becker paintings to the published request to loan them for the exhibit. More than one hundred pieces were offered by the end of December. Because the new John and Helen Villaume Wing allows the museum to exhibit a large number of paintings, the deadline is being extended to January 30, 2012.

The artwork must be in good condition, meaning that the painting is completely undamaged and the surface is free of dirt, smoke, mildew and discolored varnish, and professionally framed. If you own one or more Howard Becker paintings and wish them to be considered for this major exhibit, please contact the Wayne County Historical Society at 570-253-3240 (leave a message) or wchshop@ptd.net.
