The Wayne County Genealogy Group enters its fifteenth year on January 27, 2011. Beginning fourteen years ago as a three-lecture series by Wayne County Historian Richard Eldred on beginning family history, the group has evolved into an active group of experienced researchers always willing to welcome newcomers and beginners. The emphasis has always been on "how to," not just Wayne County families, so the collective knowledge of the group grows with each new member.
Inspired by Eldred's description of vital records as "Hatched, Matched and Dispatched," longtime member Ken Parks will start off the new year leading a discussion of birth records ("Hatched") and how to find them. The February and March meetings will highlight marriage ("Matched") and death ("Dispatched") records.
The Wayne County Historical Society, usual site of the meetings, is closed until April due to State budget cuts, and the Genealogy Group will be meeting at the Wayne County Public Library until then. The meetings are always on the fourth Thursday of every month, January through October, at 30 pm.
