Press Release: Boy Scout, Historical Society Need Help!

Troop 1 meeting, all shown now identified! Thanks!

The Wayne County Historical Society is planning a special exhibit in conjunction with Boy Scout Troop 1's 100th anniversary and looking for any type of Troop 1 memorabilia from former scouts, adult leaders, and the community, including typed or handwritten journals, old Scout Handbooks, merit badge pamphlets, carvings, special medals, badges, patches, neckerchiefs and neckerchief slides, etc.

Documents and photos of all kinds are also being sought. Photos can be of anything involving Troop 1's Troop meetings, parades, first aid meets, local camp-outs, summer camping at Goose Pond, Ten Mile River or elsewhere, trips to Boston and Washington, DC, summer expeditions to Philmont National Scout Reservation in New Mexico or Sea Base in Florida, etc. All documents and photos will be copied, enlarged if necessary, and returned to the owner before the exhibit opens. All other memorabilia will be either securely wall- or ceiling-mounted or displayed in locked display cases.

If you have any Troop 1 memorabilia to loan for the Historical Society's exhibit, please contact Bob Mermell at 570-253-5988 or jetmer@verizon.net, Dan Miller at 570-253-5405 or dmiller1@ptd.net, or the Wayne County Historical Society at wchs@ptd.net. The exhibit committee also requests the names and contact information of former scouts and leaders who have moved out of the area so they may also be contacted for information and memorabilia.
