Press Release: Guided Tour of Jennie Brownscombe's Honesdale Sites


On Friday August 5, 2011, the 75th anniversary of local but nationally know artist Jennie Brownscombe death, a guided tour of Honesdale sites she frequented and locations of her works will be offered from 00 to 6:00 PM. The tour will leave promptly at 4:00 from the lower parking lot of the Wayne County Visitors Center, located at 303 Commercial Street, Honesdale, PA, so check-in prior is advised. The cost is $10 for members of the Wayne County Historical Society and $15 to non- members. Reservations must be received by July 30, 4 PM and can be made by calling 570 253-3240, Wednesday through Saturday between 10 AM and 4 PM and Sunday, between noon and 4 PM with your credit card information or by mailing a check, payable to WCHS, to 810 Main Street, Honesdale, PA, 18413.

The tour will include Jennieࢀ™s childhood home, Wayne County courthouse, Central United Methodist Church, her studio, Giles Green's and her grave. The tour will end at the Wayne County Historical Society's 810 Main Street museum to view outdoor sculpture Brownscombe designed, an exhibition of her work, and a showing of a documentary of her life.
