Howard Becker Painting in Bethany

The Wayne County Historical Society launches its summer series of informal talks with "Howard D. Becker - His Life, His Art, His Legacy," at 5 pm on Friday, June 15. The featured speaker this week will be Peter Becker, the artist's son. Howard Becker, who is being honored by a current exhibit at the society's museum, created a breathtaking array of paintings featuring the people, places and history of Wayne County, and he will be the subject of "Plain Speaking" every third Friday through November.

The talks are free and informal, and although no refreshments are provided, attendees are welcome to bring their own snacks. Reservations are not required, but it would be a good idea to let the historical society know you are coming at 570-253-3240 or wchshop@ptd.net.

The June 22 speaker will be Mimi Steffen, author of quot;Rural Schools of Wayne County.quot; Mimi has done extensive research on one-room schools and the teachers in those schools and is a popular speaker on the subject.
