The next speaker in the Wayne County Historical Societys series of Friday Plain Speaking talks will be Mimi Steffen. The informal talk is scheduled for this Friday, June 22, from 5 to 6 pm.
After a distinguished teaching career, Mimi has devoted herself to chronicling the history of Wayne Countys one-room schools and their teachers, and is the author of the recently published Rural Schools of Wayne County. She has built a database of thousands of teachers and all the available information about them; the database is constantly growing as more information emerges through interviews and research at the courthouse and in newspapers and documents. This invaluable record is housed on the computer network at the Wayne County Historical Society.
The Plain Speaking atmosphere is casual and attendees are encouraged to ask questions and participate in the discussions. Although reservations are not necessary, it is helpful to know how many will be attending the free talks. Call 570-253-3240 for more information or to sign up. If thats not possible, though, no one will be turned away. The Wayne County Historical Society is located at 810 Main St., Honesdale.
