Press Release: Old Stone Jail Open House

Sheriff Dick Kreitner

Dick Kreitner is the honorary sheriff of the Old Stone Jail, one of the most popular attractions in Wayne County. The jail served the needs of the county for more than 150 years and was the temporary home of murderers, drunks, chronic offenders and at least one baby! Dick, who led the fight to save the jail from demolition, welcomes visitors on the first Saturday of every warm-weather month, assisted by his posse of deputies. The next free tour is scheduled for Saturday, September 4, from 10 am to 1 pm. Thanks to the Wayne County Commissioners, the Wayne County Historical Society is able to present this precious architectural artifact to the public. For more information, contact the Wayne County Historical Society at 570-253-3240 or wchshop@ptd.net, or check out the society's website at waynehistorypa.org.
