The Wayne County Historical Society's Church Bus Tour has become a Columbus Day Weekend tradition for lovers of history and Wayne County's spectacular countryside, and the bus is filling rapidly for the 2010 trip. The school bus will leave the Route 6 Plaza at 30 am on October 9, and return after dinner. The deadline for reservations is October 1, but it is likely the bus will be filled before then.
This year's tour will visit six churches and two historic buildings and includes both lunch and dinner. The Christ Episcopal Church in Indian Orchard, the former Seelyville Chapel, St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Fermoy, St. Tikhon's Monastery in South Canaan, the former I. O. O. F. (Odd Fellows) building in Sterling (now home to the Historians of Sterling Township), the Moravian Church in Newfoundland and St. John's Episcopal Church in Hamlin. The sandwich lunch will be at the Waymart Hotel and roast beef dinner at the historic Parish House of St. John's Episcopal, formerly the Wimmers railroad station.
Price for the trip is $35 for WCHS members, $40 for non-members. To make reservations, send checks to the Wayne County Historical Society, PO Box 446, Honesdale, PA 18431. To reserve with a credit card, call 570-253-3240 or email email@example.com; or visit the society at 810 Main St., Honesdale, Wednesday through Saturday, 10-4. Be prepared to make a lunch choice for each member of your party - tuna or turkey hoagie (chips and soda included).
